Last Thursday Robert N. Williams, an old settler of this county, died at his home south of Bagley of apoplexy. He was sick but a few hours. The day before his death he had a public sale on his farm and the same evening became seriously ill and died a few hours later. He settled in Dodge township a good many years ago and is justly one of Guthrie's pioneers. He was about seventy-five years of age and leaves a wife and several children. From 2/22/1906:
The community was shocked by the sudden death of Robert N. Williams on Thursday morning, after a few hours' sickness of apoplexy of the brain. His son Robert L. had a sale the day before on the home place and Mr. Williams was around in the crowd laughing and talking seemingly as well as common. That night he became very sick and died next morning. Robert N. Williams was born in Kentucky near Mammoth cave, January 10, 1831, and died February 8, 1906 aged 75 years and 29 days. He grew to manhood in Kentucky, then moved to Kankakee, Illinois, where he resided till 1883, when he moved to Webster City, Iowa. He lived there till there the fall of 1886, when he moved to Dodge township, Guthrie county, where he has lived ever since. He leaves a wife, six daughters and two sons to mourn his death. They were all present at his funeral. Mr. Williams was a good honest man, a kind friend and neighbor, well liked by everybody, and will be greatly missed in this community. Two of his children are still at home, Robert L. and Miss Laura.
