John R. Williams, 71, of 185 E. Sixth St., died at 4:40 a.m. today in Community Hospital West, following several years of illness.
Born April 18, 1903, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Martin and Rebecca Russell Williams. A resident of Salem 34 years, Mr. Williams retired in 1965 as a coal miner.
He is survived by his widow, the former Nellie E. Beadnell, whom he married Nov. 25, 1925; two daughters, Mrs. Duane (Geraldine) Martin of Rogers and Mrs. Frank (Darlene) Beeson of Phoenix, Ariz.; four sons, Marvin of Fremont, Calif., Merle of Southgate, Calif., Donald of Salem and David of Beloit; 17 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Radcliff of Akron. Two brothers preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Arbaugh-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Winn officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Salineville.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
