Biography

He was born in Mass and was one of the first settlers of Williamstown, NY, in 1801, according to the historical gazetteer of NY by French in 1860, p. 529.

About his father and the church he served in Leverett, Mass.:

The organization of the Congregational Church dates from 1774, but the settlement of the first pastor did not take place until 1784. This pastor was Rev. Henry Williams, who, after serving the church twenty-seven years, died in 1811. Among his successors were Joel Wright, Joseph Sawyer, Jonas Colburn, Freegrace Reynolds, and David Eastman. The old church stood until 1838, when it was replaced by the present edifice. The pastor now in charge is Rev. A. F. Clark. The church membership is 89.

Another telling of Henry Williams coming to Williamstown, NY.

In 1802, Judge Henry Williams relocated from nearby Camden on Lots 189 and 190 near the present home of Sam and Geraldine DeMassey. Shortly after his arrival, Franklin was renamed Williamstown in Judge Williams' honor.

Burial: West Monroe Cemetery, West Monroe, Oswego County, New York, USA

The 1810 census is hard to use, as Williamstown area was then in Oneida County and the listings do not have town names on the pages, so you end up with one whole county to look into... there is a H. Williams, but we dont know where he was living?

Williams-37937 and Williams-21577 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same title, same death year, same spouse. No sources on Williams-37937
however they both have different parents and there appears not to be any birth record in Williamstown, Mass., published book of vital records.

the tree on Ancestry is like the second man, but there are no sources to back up the Nehemiah claim on that profile for Nehemiah...

what did the person have as resources for the second Stephen Williams ???
