Biography

Curtis and Mary (Peter) Williams settled in Bureau County, Illinois a few years before there was a Bureau County. He kept ahead of settlements. He would stake out a claim, work enough to identify and hold it and then sell out to a new comer. He is buried at Mineral Cemetery in Mineral, Bureau County, Illinois. The tombstone reads "16 Mar 1797 - 3 Sep 1858 Am. Legion Was a Blackhawk Soldier".
