Flag of United States

James, his wife Catharine, and their children, immigrated to the United States sometime before 1950. [2] This is based on the fact that their daughter Martha was born in the United States.[2]

Marriage and Family

The 1850 US Census shows James, his wife Catherine and their 2 children; Caroline (1843) and Martha Ann (1849) living in Haddonfield, NJ.[2] The census record states James, Catherine and Caroline were born in England and Martha was born in New Jersey [2]. This would imply that James and his family immigrated to the United States somtime after 1843.

The 1860 US Census shows that James and his family have relocated to Philadelphia, living in the 20th Ward. A daughter, Amanda, was born in 1852, and their son James returns after serving as a Boot Fitter apprectice. [3] There is also a boarder, Kate Collins (their daughter?) and her 1 year old son George. [3]

1870 US Census shows James and Catherine living in Philadelphia's 20th Ward with their 2 daughters (Martha 20 and Amanda 18) and a boarder, William Jackson.[4]
