Biography

She was born about 1718 in Virginia and her parents were Sarah and Rev. John Williamson. [1]

Edith Williamson married on 02 Dec 1742 in Brunswick County, Virginia to Henry Ledbetter. [2]

1. Henry Ledbetter. Among the many grants of land in Brunswick County the following will show that Henry, William and Richard Led- better together with George Walton (first Justice in the County, 1732) all lived on adjoining places. They were brothers or closely related. [3]
Oct. 31, 1726. Henry Ledbetter was granted 240 acres on south side of Meherrin River.
Oct. 31, 1726. William Ledbetter (whose wife was Frances) was granted 340 acres on south side of Meherrin River at the Rattlesnake Swamp. (They sold this land May 28, 1754.)
Oct. 31, 1726. Richard Ledbetter was granted 320 acres on south side of Meherrin River at the corner of William Ledbetter's line on both sides of Rattlesnake Creek. This Richard, whose wife was named Hanna, had a land grant Sept. 16, 1740 on White Oak Swamp adjoining George Walton and Henry Ledbetter.

Edith, her husband, and her siblings are named in a 1742, Sussex Co., VA, deed selling her father's land after his death.

Brunswick Co., VA, DB 2, p. 204, 2 Dec 1742: “Hollum Sturdivant & his wife Elizabeth of Surry Co., John Rottenburry & his wife Susanna of same, Henry Ledbetter & his wife Edeth of Brunswick Co., Richard Fox & his wife Hannah alias Joanna, & Sarah Mabry to George Mabry of St. Andrew Parish in Brunswick Co. £30. 280 acres (which had been a patent to John Williamson dated 18 Feb 1722 & at his death fell to his daughters Elizabeth Sturdivant, Susanna Rottenburry, Edith Ledbetter, Hanah Fox & Sarah Mabry), on the south side of Nottoway River, joining the north side of Rocky Run. Wit: M. Cadet Young, Moses Dunkley. Proved 2 Dec 1742.” [4]

Hi Scott I am looking at the merge of this profile with Williamson-1084 (currently default approved). Do you have any more sources on the children of Edith and Henry Ledbetter? I think more research might be needed before the merge is completed as some of the children don't match with Henry Ledbetter's will, in particular Winefred whose birth year was well after Henry Ledbetter died about 1749. Thanks so much for your consideration of this.
