Nathan Williamson, son of Thomas and Martha Jones Williamson, was born about 1750 when the family was living in Amelia County, Virginia. In 1751 the family moved south to Lunenburg County, Virginia, where his father died in 1755.[4] His mother appears to have died in 1758, leaving him an orphan. "Thomas Williamson's orphans" are on the 1764 Cumberland Parish, Lunenburg Co., tithes list with 1029 acres.
Around 1771 his married sister Elizabeth Williamson Williams moved to Orange [1777/Caswell] County, North Carolina, and settled in the present Locust Hill area. Nathan probably moved with them.
