According to the 1901 census of Canada, Joseph was born about October 14, 1848. [1]. According to his death record, he was born October 1, 1846.
The first reference to Joseph living in the township of Normanby, ON dates to 1861. [2] His name appears again in 1867 where his residence is listed as Con. 2 Lot. 69. [3] pg 200. The property appears to have been in the S.E corner of the township. [4]
Joseph, his wife Marulla and their children next appear on the 1891 census. [5] This census provided ages but not birth dates for the family members and based on information from the 1901 census, did not have ages correctly recorded.
Joseph married Marillia Arthurs in 1876 in Normanby, Grey Co., Ontario:[6]
