Biography

Arthur Stanley Williamson, known as Stanley, was born on 14 Jul 1904 in Welton, East Yorkshire, near Brough, East Yorkshire, to parents Albert Williamson and Martha Jane Graves^[1][2][3][4].

The house in which the Williamson family lived was in Lady Well Gate in Welton, East Yorkshire^[5]. This photo shows the house. Albert and Martha Williamson had 11 children according to family memories^[6]. Not all of the names have yet been traced.

Stan Williamson first began in business as an ice-cream salesman. His mother Martha Jane Graves helped him to learn to make ice-cream and to run his business. In the course of time Stan began buying and selling potatoes, and this grew into a very successful fruit and vegetable business. He used to drive a van, which is shown in the picture below^[7].

In April 1928 he married Emma Smith^[8], a local girl who was from Anlaby. They had three children: Norman, Keith and Joyce. Eventually Stan Williamson's business passed into the hands of his son Norman. The business currently operates from premises at Unit 4, Hunsdale Farm Industrial Park, Ellerker, Brough, HU15 2DB^[9], and is in the hands of another Albert Williamson. His relationship to the family is not known.

He passed away in 1980^[10].
