Alden Williamson Sr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A126757.

Private Alden Williamson Sr. served with Virginia Line during the American Revolution.

1) In 1774, Alden (also spelled Audlin, Aulden) Williamson was a member of the Fincastle County (no longer exists) Virginia Militia. This unit fought in the Battle of Point Pleasant (Lord Dunmore's War) just before the beginning of the Revolutionary War. It is not known whether he stayed at the fort in Fincastle County, or if he went with the unit to Point Pleasant on the Ohio River.

2) A Chronology of Alden's life is available on Amazon.com called "The Alden Williamson Story..." by Timothy Lee Williamson. The first edition is available. A second more current edition is being written by the author containing additional biographical and historical information.

Alden2 Williamson (Hugh1) was born 1750 in James River Valley New Kent Co., Virginia, and died October 26, 1816 in Drowned in Tug River-Martin Co., Ky.. He married (1) Isabelle Thompson 1779 in Washington Co VA, daughter of Richard Thompson and Mary Short. She was born 1756 in Clinch River New Kent Co., Virginia, and died 1786 in Clinch River Valley, S. W., Va.. He married (2) Mary Elizabeth 'Betsy' Jackson 1800 in Russell Co., Va., daughter of Gabriel Jackson and Evelyn McFarlane. She was born WFT Est. 1751-1779, and died in Floyd Co., Ky.

Alden Williamson was the first person to settle at the mouth of the Laurel Fork of Pigeon. He was a descendant of Hugh Williamson, who came from Wales about 1720's and first settled in New Kent County, Virginia., and then moved with the tide of emigration to Western Pennsylvania. Alden Williamson had three sons. John, who married a Miss Hibbard and moved to Kentucky, Richard, who married a Miss Wiley, daughter of Jennie Wiley, and settled on Twelve Pole, and Benjamin, who married a Miss Porter and settled near the present site of the town of Williamson, West Virginia. By this marriage with Miss Porter, Ben Williamson had two sons, Benjamin, who married Esther Deskins, and John, who moved to Kentucky, and three daughters, who married respectively, Abram Millard, Joseph Porter, and James Taylor. James Taylor is the great-great-great-great grandfather to my husband, David A. Browning>Ruth Shilot>Addie Endicott>Columbia Taylor>Allen Taylor>James Taylor. By the second he had two sons, Hammond, who married a Miss Maynard, and Julius C, who married a Miss Butcher and is still living.

ALDEN WILLIAMSON DIED WHILE GOING DOWN TUG RIVER ON A RAFT OF TIMBER. HE IS BURIED ON THE BILL LITTLE FARM ON THE Kentucky. SIDE OF THE RIVER BELOW THE MOUTH OF West VirginiaCAMP CREEK. HE IS BURIED 2 MILES BELOW THE MOUTH OF CALF CREEK IN MARTIN County ON THE BILL LITTLE FARM. HIS GRAVE CANNOT BE POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED.

Family records state that Alden was born about 1750 in New Kent, county, Virginia, the son of Hugh ,who came from Wales England in 1720. New Kent County is in the James River area, East of Richmond. Allden appeared in the military records of Southwestern Virginia. 1769-1800. Private Williamson was listed in Captain William Campbell's Company in Fincastle County Battalion. He is also listed in Robert Doak's Company of Militia in the Battle of Point Pleasent in 1774

All family records show Alden's first wife was Isabell Thompson, but none give when and where they were married. Records partly offical and partly tradition are to the fact that after the Revolutionary War was over, Alden came to the Clinch River Valley in Western Virginia. Whether he married in Fincastle County and they came together or they were married in Tazwell County is not known.

Alden and Isabell's family; Benjamin b.1779, John b.1781, Hammond b.1783, Ann b. 1784, and Richard b.1786; were born in the Clinch River Valley and Isabell died there.

After the the death of Isabell, Alden married Mary Elizabeth Jackson several years younger than him. Most family records did not use Mary as part of the name. Wayne County records list her as Polly a substitute for Mary.

All family records show that Alden migrated to the Big Sandy Valley between 1775 and 1790. Historians say that no Williamson were in the Big Sandy Valley in 1793. The Census Bureau show Alden's children were born in Virginia. as late as 1801. Some say that Alden's first settlement was at the mouth of Laurel Creek of Pidgeon Creek, then in Virginia., but now Lenore in Mingo County, West Virginia .This would care of the Census Report that his children were born in Virginia. up to and including 1801, and allowed him to have come any time after 1793. The Pidgeon Creek settling is not found on any records.

The first record in Big Sandy was the marriage of Hammond Williamson and Ruth Ford on Oct. 29,1803 in File 77 Floyd County. Another record was the birth of Nancy Williamson to John And Elender (Black) Williamson at the mouth of Shelby Creek Pike County 1803. There is no known record of any of Alden's children living in (West) Virginia. prior to 1820.

Various deed books give Alden's children owning land in Pike, Floyd, Johnson, and Martin counties, some later moved to (West) Virginia. The Census state that Alden's second family; Alden Jr., Elizabeth, Hiram, Nancy, and Solomon b. in1801 were born in Virginia., and William, Elias, Elijah, and James were born in Kentucky. Therefore Alden's family to Big Sandy after 1801.

Little Paint Creek as per family records is the place where Allden and his family first settled in Kentucky. This empties into Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy at a place called East Point, half way between Paintsville and Prestonsburg. The valley is unique as it surrounded by hills except a few hundred feet gorge which the creek runs under US-Kentucky Route 23 and the C&O Railroad. This is the point that Jenny Wiley called out to the settlers in Harmon's Station and was ferried across the river escaping the Indians. Harmon's Station was on a tract of land now known as Block House Bottom, This bottom is half moon shape, containing about fifty acres and is bound on the west by the Levisa and on the east by a wood hill. It is between one and two miles below the mouth of Johns Creek.

Most family records state that when Alden's family settled here they were in Floyd County. That is correct. From 1787 to 1800 the Kentucky part of the Big Sandy Valley was in Mason County. In 1800 Floyd Cunty was organized, in 1821 Lawrence and Pike Counties were formed. In 1870 Martin County was mainly made up from Rockcasle and Wolf Creek valleys. The Mouth of Little Paint Creek is one of the corners between Johnson and Floyd Counties.

Some " Old Timers" believed that Alden and his family did not long reside on Little Paint Creek. In Floyd County records there are deeds showing that all four of his sons of his first family, Benjamin, John, Hammond and Richard owned farms on Lower Johns Creek, In the vicinity where Jenny Wiley settled. In Lawrence County records there are deeds showing his last family owned land on Rockcastle Creek, which was then in Lawrence, but in Martin since 1870. Some of the last family held land joining Tug Fork of Big Sandy. Three, Elias, James, and Nancy came over into Wayne County, West Virginia.

The last item in the family records state that Alden Williamson died in 1816 while going down Tug River on a raft of timber. He is buried on the original Sam Endicott farm on the Kentucky side just below the mouth of West Virginia. Camp Creek. It is not known when his last wife died or where she was buried.^[3]
