He married Sadie Bell Sanders. In 1940, they lived in Candler County, Georgia with their children Doris, Joe Nell, Sadie's mother Dossie, and their nephew A.J. Coursey[3]. He worked as a farmer.
He died April 9, 1940, in Stillmore, Candler County, Georgia[1], and was buried in Cool Spring Cemetery, Candler County, Georgia[2].
