Biography

Sarah Francis Willis was born in 1843. She was the daughter of Joel Willis and Malinda Wilhoit.

The 1850 Census[1] show her at age 7 in the household of her parents in Hartford Township, Pike County, Missouri.

The 1860 Census[2] shows her at age 16 with her parents in the same location.

She married John Gazaway Moore in 1863.[3] He was 18 years her senior and widowed. With him she had three children:

  1. Malinda Jane (Moore) Jarboe
  2. Lenora Belle (Moore) Dillion
  3. Joel Christopher Moore

The 1870 Census[4] shows her at age 23 in Hartford Township, Pike County, Missouri, with her husband, step daughter, her three children, and her father-in-law, Thomas Moore, who was then age 84.

The 1880 Census[5] shows her at age 37 in the household of her husband with three children in Hartford Township, Pike County, Missouri.

The 1900 Census,[6] enumerated on 6 Jun 1900, shows her at age 57, widowed, with a 7 year old adopted daughter, Mary Atkinson, in Gazette Village, Hartford Township, Pike County, Missouri. This census confirms that she is the mother of 3 children with 3 still living.

She died in 1909, and is buried at the Siloam Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Ashley, Pike County, Missouri.[7]
