Biography

Samuel was born during 1879 to Samuel Willis and Mary Willey at Hamilton. He appears to have been the fourth child and first son. It seems likely that his parent's immigrated to New Zealand during 1876 aboard the Bebington as this vessel is mentioned in the baptismal records for Sarah Jane[1] and Ida Emma Willis.

When Samuel married[2] Edith the ceremony was witnessed by R.T. Carbines, a Motorman of Karangahape Road and Ruby Lonegan of Newton Road. The marriage was performed by W. Edward Luch.

Samuel died during or prior to 1919, as he is mentioned as already deceased in his mother's will dated 1st September 1919 and probated in 1927[3].

"Willis - On November 9 at the Auckland Hospital, of pneumonia, Samuel George, the dearly-beloved husband of Edith Willis of Great North Road, Grey Lynn, and elder beloved son of Samuel and Mary Willis, of Hamilton; aged 39 years. Interred at Purewa."[4]
