Biography

Jesse Wilmot, son of Jesse and Hannah Wilmot, was born 13 Sep 1810. He resided in Carroll Co. Missouri in 1891.[1]

Jesse Wilmot Jr. was born September 13, 1810 in Colesville, Broome County, New York and was the last child born to his mother Hanna Bunnel with his father Jesse Wilmot Sr.. Jesse Sr. didn't live to see him born. He died October 19, 1810 about a month before Jesse Jr. was born.

In the biography for his brother Lyman Wilmot, pages 114-115 of the "History of Deerfield Illinois", it says, "His parents were Jesse and Hannah (Bunnel) Wilmot, both natives of Connecticut. His father was born August 3, 1770, and died in Colesville, N. Y., October 19, 1810. Lyman Wilmot... having lost his father when a child of four years, and his mother being in poor circumstances, was obliged to leave home at the early age of ten and make his own way in the world. He began as a farm hand."[2]

Jesse Wilmot Jr. married Elizabeth Magdaline Luther. Both were born in New York. Some genealogies show their marriage as May 13, 1839 in Cook County, Illinois. Their first known child (a daughter, Amy Amelia)) was born in Illinois in January, 1840. Family history shows their second child, Aden Agustus was born in 1841 and passed away a few months later.

On page 10 in the book, "History of Deerfield, Illinois", it says, Early Settlers. ...Jesse Wilmot, who married Elizabeth Luther, came up the north branch of the Chicago River in 1834 and spent the winter alone where the village now is. In 1837, his brother, Lyman, came and in 1840, Lyman brought his wife, Clarissa Dwight, to the 240 acres of "wild land," in the vicinity of the Wilmot school. [2]

1834 Jesse Wilmot comes by flatboat up the North Branch of the Chicago River and spends the winter alone as he scouts the area.[3]

In the 1850 census Jesse (age 39) was in Peoria, Peoria, Illinois, United States.[4]

In the 1860 census Jesse (age 49) was in Yorktown, Henry, Illinois, United States. Important note: It looks as if the census taker ran out of room listing all the Wilmot children which starts near the bottom of the page, so when he turned the page to continue recording the names of the remaining Wilmot children, he accidently turned two pages instead of one page! The two pages previously left blank later were filled in with names of other residents. Now it makes it look like the remaining children of the Wilmot family Signor (10), John (7), Ely (5), Lydia (3) and Isabel (1) are attached to another person's household (John Sutter, a neighbor in Yorktown)! Likewise, when turning the page to find the other children of the Wilmot family you instead find children of the Muller family who are now attached to the household of Jesse and Elizabeth Wilmot! What a mess! [5]

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jesse:
