Biography

Janet Muirhead

Janet was born in 1858 in Wishaw, Scotland. Her parents were John Collier Wilson and Janet (Danks) Wilson. Janet was the second of seven children born to them. Her father was a miner by trade, and had been since about age eleven. When Janet reached the age of twenty, she married John Muirhead in 1878 in Cumbaslang, Scotland. She started her own family the following year, with the birth of her son Thomas.^{[citation needed]}

John and Janet continued to add to their family there in Scotland. By the year 1902 they had added John,^[1] Jessie,^[2] Margaret,^[3] David, ^[4][5] Alexander, ^[6] Mary, Jim,^[7] Jane,^[8] and Anna^[9] to their home. In May of 1907 they ventured off on a new adventure, and moved to Canada.^[10] The manifest of the Sicilian showed the following passengers: John (52) a Joiner, Janet (49) his wife, Jessie (24) a Clothing Cutter, Maggie (22) a Milliner, Alexander (18) a Mechanical Engineer, Mary (16) a Tailoress, James (14) a Child, and Anna (4 6/12) a child. They were traveling as a family, with a final destination of Regina, Canada.

Janet Wilson passed away in 1934 at the age of seventy-six.^[11] She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1917, her daughter Jane in 1900, her son Alex in 1916, her daughter Margaret in 1924, and her son John in 1930. Janet was laid to rest in Washington,^[12] near her daughters Jessie (Muirhead) Bell and Mary (Muirhead) Parke.
