Notes

N222According to some paperwork from Cyndy Cutler he was a widower before he married Ann Daniels.
And in the Book on Studley Chapel on page 210 it says that he had been married before (Book kept under Martha Marshman Records).
The eldest son of Martha Wiltshire was Henry, who was enabled
to adorn his profession as a member of the Church at Studley for
nearly fifty years. He was born in 1805 and was kept moral and upright
in his youth, being also cared by grace in early years. The dealings of
the Lord with him were of a gentle nature, so that he was often tried
because he had not experienced so deep a law-work as some others.
But he was a sincere follower of the Lamb and in his first love was
very zealous in going to bear such ministers as Mr. Gadsby, whom
he heard eleven times during one of his visits to these parts. Mr.
Warburton he also much loved for his work's sake, and he was
baptized when young by Mr. Dymott. He was twice married, his first
family consisting of five children and his second of nine. "The Lord
appeared for him and his and blessed him in his basket and in his
store. On one occasion the Lord blessed his soul when on a journey
not very far from his home. Aftenwards he was tried about this, and
begged the Lord that if the blessing was really from Him, He would
appear to his soul's comfort again on the very same spot. Some years
after, the Lord completely granted his request, and he was enabled to
realize the presence of the Lord so much that he said aloud three times
over, 'The presence of the Lord is with me'. He could then challenge
Satan to his face" (G.S. 1879, p. 526).
After this he lost three children within three weeks. The burial
had to be in the neighbouring churchyard, but the clergyman objected
to read the burial service, so that the father spoke at the grave himself,
Referring to the circumstances he said: "I have been told that the
children will not be perfect in bliss because they have not been
christened, but we believe in no such popery". About nineteen years
after his second marriage he was taken with paralysis while at tea
one day, his right side being affected and his speech for some time.
He was never able to converse on worldly things again, but did so on
spiritual things toward the end of his life. He was taken to chapel in
a wheeled chair until within three or four months of his death. Once
during this period he heard Mr. Porter preach from John xvi.22, and
often afterwards quoted the words: "See you again", having heard
to profit. The Lord appeared for him in providence and comforted him
in his soul. He was confined to his bed for the last month, being
afflicted with dropsy, which occasioned great suffering; but he made
his family understands that he felt his sufferings to be light compared
with those of his Lord. On the Sunday before he died he commenced
singing, "Praise God from whom all blessings flow". The following
night he repeated many times, "All the glory", which was all he could
say. A few hours before the end he said to one of his brothers: "See
you again". His brother said: " You will soon see Him face to face",
and he replied, "Yes". Just before the end there was another stroke
and he soon passed away to eternal rest. This was on February 17th,
1879 at the age of seventy-three.
Residence: A neighbour to his brother Gideon in 1851.
Religion: A member of the church at Studley S.B. chapel for nearly 50 years.
