The guess Kathy Patterson made years ago that her maiden name was Winchester was confirmed in 2010, when she located Margaret's son John A Howie's death certificate at Ancestry.com.
In 1850 she was next door to poss brother Thomas Winchester and wife Nancy and a couple of houses away from Joseph Winchester; in 1860 she was next door to Joseph Winchester and wife Sarah.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Margaret by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Margaret:
I'm not finding a child of Joseph (Margaret's father) named Amanda on Family Search. Only Amanda found is daughter of T.D. & Eliza Winchester who married R.F. Howard. I suspect this refers to Thomas Didymus & Eliza Jane (Stitt) Winchester.
