Biography

Mistaken Identity

The Sarah Lawrence who married (1) Joseph Winslow, and (2) Charles LeBros, was in this profile previously but erroneously connected as a child of Thomas Lawrence of Hingham. Robert Charles Anderson in The Great Migration [1] clearly identifies her as the daughter, born say 1648, of Thomas Lawrence and first wife Mary ____ of Ipswich; later, Flushing; and by 1656 Newtown on Long Island, New York.

Sarah was christened on 4 March 1644 in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[2]

Per Mayflower Families, she was a daughter of Capt. Thomas Lawrence of Newtown, Long Island.[3]

If this is so, she's currently attached to the wrong Thomas Lawrence.

Sarah Lawrence or Mrs Winslow, wife of Joseph Winslow.

Joseph was born about 1645 and died before August 7, 1679, on Long Island, New York. He married Sarah Lawrence by 1668 and had four children. Sarah married (2) Charles LeBros. She died before 1693.[4]

Children[5]

The Thomas Winslow whose profile is attached as a child above should not be listed. He is not the child of Joseph Winslow and Sarah (Lawrence) Winslow. Joseph and Sarah Winslow had two children whose names are unknow and Mary (Winslow) Crannell and Joseph Winslow. The Thomas Winslow listed as a child should be removed. I will add a source for this once I locate it again. Steven Wells
