Elizabeth (Unknown) Bates was born in England.
- Elizabeth was named in John Bate's will.[1]
- Some have said that Elizabeth was a Winston, however, there is no documentary evidence that supports that claim. The only documentation which suggests his wife MAY have been Elizabeth Winston is that William Winston witnessed John's will, therefore UNKNOWN is the correct LNAB

It has been claimed that John Bates of Virginia was the son of James Bate(s) and Mary Martine. However, it appears that this couple's son John was buried 6 Mar. 1606, which would mean that James and Mary couldn't have been the parents of John, whose known children don't include a James or a Mary.[1]
