William Wirthington was a War of 1812 veteran, in fact, William died Feb. 18, 1815, as a war casualty, just four months after their second daughter was born. William served as a Private 2nd Class in the Tennessee Militia. His widow, Celia, received a pension from the Federal Government upon William's death.
