Biography

Elizabeth Ann Wiseman was born 1790 the granddaughter of Baronet Wiseman, and her ancestry is documented in Burke's Peerage. In this tree it is assumed that it is this woman who married William Chipperfield.

She was not mentioned in her father's will, made in 1831 although her husband William and her son John both were, and his other daughters were. This might mean that she pre-deceased her father, but no record of her early death has been found, and a woman called Elizabeth is still living as William's wife until 1864 and there is no evidence to indicate that it is not the same woman. An alternative hypothesis is that her father did not approve of her marriage to William Chipperfield who was socially below her. The only marriage that has been found is in Deal in 1815. If this is the correct one then it looks as if they might have eloped. There are no Chipperfield or Wiseman families in Deal around this time. She may then have been somewhat estranged from her father, and he did not care to mention her name in his will even though he left money to her husband and son.

Assuming that she is the woman who died 2.9.1864 she is described as having died at 3 Catherine Place, Commercial Rd, age 73, Widow of William Chipperfield, Master Baker, of "Natural Decay about 2 years". The informant's name is hard to read, might be Charlotte Pen or Ben or P?en of 10 Kent Street Southwark.

Born date is baptism. 13 JUN 1790. Northfleet St Botolphs PR. [1]

Note: #N116.
