Biography

Robert was born in Clover Bottom, Jackson, Kentucky on 7 June 1886.[1] He was the son of Abner Witt and Rena Daugherty.[2] His marriage record gives his mother's name as Laura.[3]

In 1900, Robert Witt lived in Magisterial District 4, Horse Lick, Jackson, Kentucky, with his parents, Abner and Sarena Witt and 6 brothers and sisters.[4]

When he registered for the world War 1 Draft on 5 June 1917 in Jackson County, Kentucky, Robert said he was 30 years old, born on 7 June 1886 in clover Bottom, Kentucky, which was where he was then living. He was a single farmer, and his mother was solely dependent on him. Robert was of medium height and build, with blue eyes and brown hair.[1]

Lizzie Powell, 28, and Robert Witt, 33, were married on 24 Nov 1920 in Kentucky. He was the son of Abner and Laura Witt, and she was the daughter of W. L. and Sarah B. Powell.[3] Based on US Census and other records, they had at least the following children:

  • Stanley Y./L. Witt, b. 1 Jan 1923[6][7]; d. 13 Dec 1999[8]

  • William Abner Witt, b. 22 Nov 1926[11]; d. 24 May 1989 Springdale, Hamilton, Ohio[12]
  • Sarah Serena/R. Witt, b. 13 May 1928[13]
  • Ebb Clarence Witt, b. 3 Sept 1930; d. 8 Oct 2005
  • Grace Goodhue Witt, b. 9 Jan 1933[14]


In 1930, Robert, a farmer, lived in Coyle Precinct, Jackson, Kentucky, with his wife Lizzie and 5 children.[15]

In 1940, Robert Witt was living with his wife Elizabeth and 7 children in Magisterial District 6, Jackson, Kentucky.[16]

Robert died on 13 Jan 1951 at Eglon, Jackson, Kentucky, and he is buried at the Robinson Cemetery, Eglon, Jackson, Kentucky.[17] You can see pictures of his family at FindAGrave. The Kentucky Death Records say that he died in Lexington, Fayette, Kentucky.[2]
