Biography

Hezekiah Witt was born to Richard Witt, Sr. and Elizabeth Liptrot around 1730 [1]. Hezekiah was likely born in Virginia Colony based on his father being in the tithables list of Amelia County from 1745-1749 [2]. Hezekiah and several of his brothers were pioneers into North Carolina. Hezekiah died after the1790 census, probably in Rutherford County, North Carolina [3]. His wife has not been identified.

An alternate birth year of 1734 in Staunton, Augusta Co., Virginia was given in an unsourced Ancestry.com tree[4].

On 6 Sept. 1782, Hezekiah made a payment in the amount of 7 pounds, 8 shillings, in support of the Revolutionary War in Salisbury, Rutherford Co., North Carolina[5]. Additional records have not been located showing this Hezekiah Witt residing in Rowan Co., but he is the best match. Rowan and Rutherford Co. were not directly adjacent in 1782, but had only one small county (Lincoln) between them[6].

Witt-904 and Whitt-158 appear to represent the same person because: Only slight differences in vitals. From David Whitt, 2004; Heritage Books, MD. Richard had one son, Hezekiah WITT, born c. 1730, died after 1790 in Rutherford Co., NC. Hezekiah did have sons Jesse and Burgess (among others).
