Lydia Witt was born about 1756 in Halifax County, Virginia Colony. She was the daughter of Charles Witt and Lavinia Harbour. She passed away after 1822 in Jefferson County, Tennessee.
Birth
No birth record has been found. Lydia's birth date is based on date of marriage and births of her children, as well as dates of birth of her siblings. Estimated birth year is 1756.
Marriage
No marriage record has been found. Lydia married William Mays about 1776. Lydia Witt was unmarried when her father, Charles Witt, wrote his will in 1771.[1] William Mays purchased land near Joseph Witt, Lydia's brother, in 1777. This purchase probably occurred about the time of, or shortly after, his marriage to Lydia. It is assumed they married in 1776; William would be age 21 and Lydia age 20. William died in 1819 in Jefferson County, Tennessee, and left a will in which Lydia was named[2].
Death
No death record or burial site has been found. Lydia was still living in 1822 when she appears on the 1822 tax list of Jefferson County with her sons James and John.[3]
