Biography
Salome was born in 1851. She is the daughter of Valentin Wohlhuter and Sarah Gerst. She passed away in 1909. [1]
Some sources list birth place as Chicago, Cook, IL but death record of her son William indicates place of birth was Gower, DuPage, IL. That would seem to be a better match with her parents history.
1860 Census shows her as age 9, living in Lyons, Downers Grove Twp, DuPage Co with her parents Valentine & Salome, brothers Valentine & George, and sister Louise. Household also included two uncles, Chretian & Frederick Garst. She is listed as Salome rather than Sarah, and the last name is mispelled as Woolhender.
1870 Census shows her as age 18 living in Downers Grove, DuPage, IL with husband Valentine, daughter Caroline, brother-in-law George Mochel and one 9 year old male, name unreadable. Searchs read surname as Michel.
1880 Census shows her as age 29 living in Downers Grove, DuPage, IL with husband Valentine, daughters Caroline & Louise, and sons George & Fred.
1900 Census shows her as age 49 living in Downers Grove, DuPage, IL with husband Valentine, daughter Matilda; and sons Charles, William, Elmer, & Edward. Birth listed as May 1851 in Illinois. Had 10 children, 8 still living.
