Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
William Womack was a Virginia colonist.

William Womack, Jr. was born about 1647 in Henrico County, Virginia Colony. He was the son of William Womack and Mary Allen. He passed away before April 1674.

William married about 1670 in Henrico County, Virginia Colony. His wife is variously identified as Jane Gower or Jane Grover Allen. No marriage record or other documentation has been found to support either surname. The couple apparently had no children and Jane remarried soon after William's death to William Clarke.

Death & Legacy

William died sometime before April 1674, apparently intestate. His widow's new husband, William Clarke, expected to receive his entire estate on behalf of his wife. William's brother, Abraham Womack contested this in Henrico County Court and received this ruling:

Regarding the settlement of the estate of William Womack, dec'd, in the dispute between Abraham Womack and William Clarke: "6 April 1674. It is ordered that the said Abra Womack (brother of the said William, dec'd) have two thirds of his Estate, both reall and personal and the widow have the other pt."[1]

This settlement indicates William died without issue since no children are mentioned.

Somehow that DateGuess tag seems like a cop-out.
Abriel was the wife of William Augustus, two gens before this William. Too many William's . . . . Though Jane might be a relative.
Question about name of wife. William's grandfather, William C. Womack, is said to be married to Abriel Gower. Have these women, Abriel and Jane Gower, been added to this profile in error?
Womack-232 and Womack-201 appear to represent the same person because: same birth date; both son of William B. Womack.
Womack-451 and Womack-201 appear to represent the same person because: birth and death dates nearly the same; both son of William Womack and Mary J. Allen.
