Richard Womack was a Virginia colonist.

Richard Womack was born about 1655 in Henrico County, Virginia. In a deposition regarding his brother-in-law, John Puckett, on 2 June 1679 he stated he was about 24 years of age.[1] He died before 25 April 1684 in Henrico County, Virginia.

Richard received a patent for 450 acres of land in Henrico County, Virginia, March 15, 1672. This land lays on the North side of the Appomattox River adjoining Aspen Swamp and the lands of John Puckett and others. [2]

Richard got in trouble with Thomas Jefferson (grandfather of Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the US) when he and two of his brothers refused to perform their civic duty in clearing the common roadways.

Richard Womeck, & John Womeck presented among others by Thomas Jefferson, surveyor of the Highways for refusing to assist him in clearing same (after notice given) & they are ordered to be summoned to next Court to answer said comtempt. Thos. Womeck also among the number presented. 1 February 1683.[1]

Richard married Mary Puckett about 1675 (possibly Oct 1677), but definitely before 1679, in Henrico County, Virginia Colony. Richard Womack "in right of wife" was allotted his share of cattle from the estate of his father-in-law John Puckett & Anne his wife, both deceased; dated 29 May 1679.[1]

Richard is said to have been killed by Seneca indians while on a hunting trip with other settlers from Henrico Co.,Virginia in 1684. He died at the age of 29. Since he died intestate, his widow "Mary Womeck" posted bond as administratrix on the estate (Securities Mr. Richard Ligan & Mr. Abraham Womeck) and Appraisers were appointed to evaluate the estate -- Thos. At a later court "Mary Womecke" was granted administration of his estate and was ordered to report to the Court. 9 October 1684.[1] The inventory of his estate was recorded in Henrico County Records, 1677-1692, Part 2, page 285: 19 August 1684.[3]

After Richard's death, Mary married John Granger. There were problems in this marriage and Richard's brother Abraham Womack was forced to go to Court to ensure that his brother's children were properly cared for.
