Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
William Womack Sr was a Virginia colonist.

William, son of John Womack and Mary Akin, was born about 1679 in Henrico County, Virginia Colony. William died after June 1726 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia Colony.

No information is yet available as to William's wife and children (except one son, William, Jr., mentioned below). William is presumed to have died after 1726, the date he sold the land inherited from his father.

William was named in the will of his father dated 17 October 1725 in Prince George County, Virginia Colony. After a bequest to his brother Abraham of the manor plantation and 100 acres of land, William is left the remainder of the land. All other assets are to be divided among the children of John Womack, except brother Abram [?? maybe Richard] who is left one shilling.[1]

William had apparently already left Prince George County, for he sold the land inherited from his father on 19 June 1726.

William Womack of Isle of Wight Co., Va., to Abraham Womack of Bristol Parish, Prince George., Va., 75 acres, 5 Pounds, the land lying between the land of said Abraham Womack and Richard Womack. Signed by mark.[2] Abraham inherited 100 acres in their father's will and Richard was granted 200 acres in 1717 by John Womack.

No further data can be found for William in court records of Isle of Wight County. There are, however, records of land transactions of William Womack there in 1735 and 1747. This is presumably William's son, William, since in 1747 he was designated as William Womack, Junior.
