Biography

David was born in 1799, in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He was the son of Archer Womack and Ann Faris Flournoy.

On 20 May 1836, in Charlotte County, Virginia, he married Jane M Gaines[1]. They settled in Prince Edward and had 6 children.

  1. Bettie Ann Womack b. 1839 - d. 1857, age 17, from typhoid fever[2]
  2. Virginia Womack b. abt. 1840 - d. 1919, m. John James Franklin
  3. David Gaines Womack b. 1842 - d. 1927, m. Martha Jane Dillon
  4. Margaret Martin Womack b. 1844 - d. 1861, age 17, from typhoid fever[3]
  5. James Watson Womack b. 1849 VA - d. 1918 TX, m. Mary Etta Gaw
  6. John Womack b. 1851 - d. 1853, age 2, from "inflammation of the brain"[4]

David served during the Civil War. However, the unit he served with is unknown. He did, however, submit for and was granted amnesty on 31 Aug 1865[5].

He lived in Prince Edward throughout his life. However, his date of death is unknown, other than was between the 1870 and 1880 censuses as he appears on the 1870 and wife Jane appears as "widowed" on the 1880.
