Not much else can be documented easily except through family information posted online (few with source material.) An online family tree lists Betty Harmon as spouse and states that John P died at Gettyburg in 1863. [1]

Civil War records list one Corporal John P Womack age 22 with the 55th NC Infantry, Company C ,"The Cleveland Grays" in 1862 [2] [3] There are also two John Womacks, a John R Womack and four Womacks with first initial "J" in one of six other regiments. The spelling variants add other possibilities.

(Other possible local Womacks: Privates Addison Womack and William Womack are also listed here. Private Jonas Womack is listed with Company I of the 56th Regiment, "The Rutherford Rifles" [4] this is put here as a placeholder for now)
