Biography

John Warrington was a sculptor who exhibited works at the Royal Academy from 1868 to 1874. He adopted Warrington as his middle name to distinguish himself from that of the older sculptor, John Wood. He trained as a stonemason in Warrington then moved to Rome in 1861 which was his main place of work. He sculpted a medallion of Keats for the Protestant Cemetary in Rome, Italy in 1876. In 1877, he was elected to the Guild of St. Luke in Rome. His statues of Raphael and Michelangelo stand at the entrance of the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, England.

John's death (age 47) was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1886 in the Warrington district.[1]
