Biography

In the 1655 settlement of the estate of his father "John Wood of Portsmouth", "George" is named the "eldest son".

Some researchers speculate that this is the George Wood who spent most of his life on Long Island. Five children who lived to maturity -- Jacob, John, Mary, George, Ann. After his death, his widow Ann m2 Henry Rogers. Source records for these hypothesis need to be summarized and presented here for this to be confirmed.

Research Notes

Bertha Clark reported that George had an illegitimate child with an Indian girl named "Hope" sometime in 1643 and were in court in Southampton March 4, 1644 when the (unnamed) child was assigned as servant to Edward Howell.

Clark states that George was a landowner in Saybrook, Connecticut and later in Setauket (now Brookhaven), Long Island. Land records show that George owned land in Setauket in 1661 and that George sold his land in Saybrook in 1662.
