In 1774 removed from New Garden Mtg for repeated drinking to excess.
William Wood, son of Thomas Wood, late of
Chester County, dec'd. and Mary his wife, and
Margarett Holland, daughter of Thomas and
Margarett Holland of Prince George's County,
Maryland, dec'd 6-10-1749 at London Grove
meeting house.
"William Wood, born in Warwickshire, England 22 Jun 1723, died 20 Apr 1775, married, 6 Oct 1749, Margaret Holland, born 18 May 1730, in Prince George Co., Md., died 29 Oct 1775, daughter of Thomas and Margaret Holland."(p.771)
William became a Quaker after coming to America where he spoke at meetings. On 28th day of Eighth Month 1749 at New Garden MM, he requested a certificate to Newark to marry Margaret Holland. On the 4th of Ninth Month 1749 he announced his marriage intentions the first time, and the second time on 2nd day of Tenth Month when the marriage was approved by the Meeting. On the 6th day of Eleventh Month 1749, they removed from Newark to Kennett. William was reprimanded “For Selling His Negro Woman” by the Meeting, and subsequently he signed a formal apology.
