Felix was born on 24 December 1839 in Jefferson County, Alabama, USA. He was the son of Edmund Wood and Stella (Tarrant) Wood.^[1]

In the 1850 census Felix (age 10) was living in Woods, Jefferson, Alabama.^[2]

He served the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. He enlisted on June 4, 1861 at the age of 22. He was a 3rd Corporal in Company B., 10th Regiment, Alabama Infantry.^[3]
