Richard Wood ... He passed away in 1859. he is Buried in a Cemetery in Floyd Co VA surrounded by his four wives, he was a farmer and a trader in Woods Gap VA now Blairs Park in Pulaski Co along the Indian trail which was a route used by rival tribes to raid one another, his birth record has yet to be found and confirmed but he is definitely part of this pedigree. A long sought after mystery to many family trees as to his parents and orgin. It appears his death record recorded by his son list his older brother and sister as his parents, which is because Richard's son had no idea about his grandparents, Richard may have had no known recollection of his father John who was a frontiersman and indian fighter and was killed when he was 7 years old. Sometime between his father's death and reappearing in Bedford VA orphan records at age 15 His mother, Agnes, relocated to what is now Tennessee during it's settling of the whiteman. She was also killed by indians, Richard Wood settled in Woods Gap but has no relation to the area this is where he had 4 wives and sired many family trees of Wood/s in that area. Many confusions arose over the years by his land deed witnessed by John Woods (unrelated) and by John Woods' son also named Richard. Many genelogies contribute the John and Micheal Woods of Scottish Irish Woods' as his lineage due to copy and paste ancestry.com trees taken from records referencing back to Neander Woods' book which most believed to be correct even my Grandmother followed that theory, both John's were in Lord Dunmore's War and fought at the battle of Pleasant Creek. But in different regiments. We now have access to better data to separate the two as well as my DNA debunks that ,and even though both lines can be connected it is quite distant. Richard's father John is from the Peaks of Otter Wood family as the fist settlers of that area they came from New Jersey via England.
Agnes (Griffith) Wood born in Bath County VA. (Find a grave lists "Nelly" that is incorrect. Nelly is a presumption made from another John Woods' wife often confused with our John Wood.)
His four sucessive wives, who all predeceased him: Rachel Cockram, Fannie Brammer, Elizabeth DeHart and Lucendia Via. A forward looking man, Dickey arranged their graves so he would have a wife on either side, on at his head and one at his feet. He and wives 1,3 and 4 were the parents of at least 17 children
Richard was born in 1769. He passed away in 1859.

Living with his son Edmond's family In the Patrick County 1860 census. Which is probably second hand information from a neighbor of Edward's(His son Edward died in 1860 before the Census. Richard was not listed in the household of Edwards widow Nancy. Richard died in 1859. What is this source note refering to???)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Richard by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Wood-17682 and Wood-6358 appear to represent the same person because: Clear Duplicate I found gravesite with correct birthdate needs merged and his four wives are correct
Wood-7403 and Wood-12204 appear to represent the same person because: Wood-7403 and Wood-12204 are ready to be merged because: Both Richard's have the same birthdate and place. And mother, and siblings as found in a Franklin County Census
Wood-12204 and Wood-6358 are not ready to be merged because: : Both Richard's have the same birthdate and place.wives and wedding dates , ,and siblings as found in a Franklin County Census Johnson and Phebe are incorrect parents John and Agness Wood should be the matching parents.
I have found the correct father of Richard it is not Lt Col John Woods, he is John Wood, numerous online copy and paste researchers have corrupted the actual geneology by copying Neander Woods a Grandson of Richard Wood who only knew his name as John and connected him to Lt Col John Woods son of Micheal Woods of Boetourt, this is incorrect and also will be corrected in this tree with sources.
This is the same Richard Wood, everything matches except his parents Phebe Breed migrated to VA from PA with her parents after Richard's birth , but Johnson Wood isn't the correct husband either. I'll have to find a link for my source it's on my wikitree somewhere, I would like to merge but I don't think Johnson and Phebe are correct. Phebe Breed came to Virginia with her Father from PA after Richard's birth.
Hi Rodney thank you for the merge request, I agree we have the same Richard Wood. Unfortunately I've found an error that has been presented before as Johnson and Phebe Wood as Richard's parents. I have a link that shows them migrating to VA after Richard's birth. I believe his birth record to have been destroyed during the civil war. This has been an elusive subject but eliminating who is his parents has narrowed the possibilities, my geneology is based on my Grandmother's notes and I'm working on sources to prove or disprove my tree as I believe it to be. Richard is more than likely son of a John Woods who I hope to prove as Michael Woods Jr son as shown in my tree. Thanks again and any help with sources and info is greatly appreciated.
John Woods may not be Richard "Dickey" Woods father as listed in many genealogies but the son of a cousin, I need to locate the birth records to confirm who his parents were, my dna does disqualify John Woods from Lunneberg NC as listed in many pedigrees because there where two Richard Wood/s born the same year unfortunately mine appears to be elusive, family records kept by Grandmother indicate John Woods son of Michael Woods Jr. son of Michael and Lady Mary Campbell Woods, yet Michael Woods Jr may not have been their son but a nephew that claimed to be a son, these findings have been based by the Wood project on Family DNA I'm the only direct desendant of Richard Woods in the study, I will update as I can and welcome and advice and/or findings, thank you
