Note N1912
A death notice printed in the local newspaper in Jamaica, Queens says that Elsie was born in Jamaica, "in 1850 when farms covered the area", in "the living quarters attached to the cigar store of her father, Eldred Wood, on what is now Jamaica Avenue near 162nd Street."
The New York Times on November 25, 1934 published an obituary which called her "A Leader in Welfare and Social Circles of Long Island for Half Century." It said she had founded the Jamaica Hospital and been its treasurer for thirty years, among other things.

LONG ISLAND DAILY PRESS, 24 NOVEMBER 1934
Mrs. Granville Yeaton, 84, Will Be Buried Tomorrow
Helped Found Jamaica Hospital and Started Pioneer Society
"Mrs. Granville Yeaton, who was born in Jamaica in 1850, when farms covered the area, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lester Clerke, 89-60 164th street, Jamaica. Mrs. Yeaton, despite her 84 years, was active in social and church work until a week ago when she suffered a stroke.
She was best known, perhaps, for her work in support of Jamaica Hospital, of which she was one of the founders. She was treasurer for almost 30 years. She was also a founder of Jamaica Women's Village Society, an exclusive organization, membership in which is restriced to women who resided in Queens prior to its consolidation with the City of New York in 1898.
Mrs. Yeaton was born in the living quarters attached to the cigar store of her father, Eldred Wood, on what now is Jamaica Avenue near 162nd street. At the age of 20 she married Granville Yeaton, a trustee of the village, whose uncle was keeper of the toll gate at Central avenue and Merrick road, St. Albans. She had three children. Besides Mrs. Clerke, they are Mrs. Elsie Schoonmaker of California
and Granville G. Yeaton of New Jersey. She is survived also by six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Her husband died three years ago at the age of 82.
Services will be held at the Jamaica Methodist Church, 164th street, tomorrow at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Cypress Hills Cemetery. The Rev. Lester Ward Aumann, pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Andrew Magill, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Jamaica.
