Biography

George was born on 17 July 1855. George was the child of Minerva Hudson and William Wood in Marion County, Arkansas. In early 1857 while George was only a year and a half old, his father William Wood[1] set out on the Baker–Fancher party[2] wagon train to seek his fortune in California. The gold rush was ending[3] and William's wife Minerva was pregnant so she decided to stay in Arkansas with her infant son George untill William returned to fetch them. Unfortunately the wagon train never got to California and George's father William was killed in the tragic Mountain Meadow Massacre on 07 Sep 1857.

In 1859 Minerva was re-married to Joel Northcott and between 1859 and 1863, she gave birth to their five children, George's half brothers and sisters. The 1870 census[4] shows the family living and farming in Sugarloaf Township, Marion, Arkansas.

In 1874 George moved to White Rock, TX (near Waco) where he met the love of his life, the beautiful Mary Pamillia Miller. On 12 Sep 1876 George married Mary Pamellia Miller in McLennan, Texas. Between 1878 and 1901, Mary gave birth to their eleven children. The 1900 census shows the family living in Comanche, Texas.
