Nehemiah Woods was born 6 December 1731 at Groton, Middlesex, the son of Isaac Woods and Abigail Stevens.[1] He married (first) Sarah Lakin 20 Apr 1756 at Groton, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[2] Together they had at least six children: Thomas, Sarah, Nehemiah, Betsy, Ephraim, and Jonas.

Sarah died in 1779 and Nehemiah married (second) Mary Kemp Brooks in 1785,

Nehemiah Woods joined the Continental Army in 1776. He participated in the Ticonderoga Alarm in 1777 and the battle at Bennington in 1777 under the command of Lieut. Nichols.[3]

Nehemiah died 10 January 1815 at Hollis, Hillsborough, New Hampshire.[4][5]Nehemiah's Last Will and Testament was signed and dated 15 Aug 1814 and witnessed by Benj. Pool, William Ames, and James Bradbury. He left a bequest to his (second) wife Mary giving her specific rooms in their house, a certain corner of the cellar, and the use of the oven in the kitchen. He also gave a detailed list of fresh produce: grains, vegetables, fruits and meats which he required his children and/or their heirs to furnish to Mary every year (in specific quantities). They were also to pay half of any doctor's or medical bills she incurred and for her funeral expenses. His oldest son, Thomas; Nehemiah (second son); s. Jonas; and the heirs of his (second) daughter Betsy Brooks were given all of his real estate in Hollis to divide amongst themselves. His son Ephraim was given any remaining parts of the farm which had not already been deeded to him. The Will was probated in the County Court at Hillsborough on 22 Feb 1815.[6]
