Essie is the 2nd Centurion that I've documented as of this date. Five minutes ago I just listed her older brother Ezra 18 days short of 101. Some of her sisters came close to 90 though. She was buried at Gracelawn Cemetery, Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas.
Essie Iris Bohannon, 102, of Van Buren, Arkansas died Friday, September 27, 1996, at her home. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church, the widow of Oscar Bohannon and a resident of Van Buren since 1937. She was a homemaker and affiliated with Bohannon Canning Co.
Survivors include one daughter; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at Ocker Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Steele officiating. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home. Pallbearers were her great-grandsons. Funeral family visited with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Ocker Funeral Home. This information was contributed to Find A Grave by Tonia Holleman.
