Roscoe P. Wood was born September 14, 1844, in Hebron, Maine, the son of Alonzo and Betsey (Jordon) Wood. He worked various jobs in a shoe factory his whole life, living in Auburn, Maine. He was a member and grand master of Androscoggin Lodge, No. 24, I. O. O. F., in Auburn.
He married Ella Hannah Bridgham on November 24, 1867 in Turner, Maine. She was born October 26, 1846, in Buckfield, Maine.
In 1870, Roscoe and Ella lived in Buckfield, along with their infant daughter, Mellie. His personal estate was valued at $300. He worked as a "shoe bottomer."
In 1880, they lived in Auburn with their children, Mellie, Willie, and Roscoe Wood. He was a shoe shop hand. They two older children were attending school.
In March, 1895, Roscoe P. Wood ran for the office of Warden in Auburn, Ward 2, on the Democratic ticket.
Still living in Auburn in 1900, they lived with their children R. Alonzo, Nora, and Linn. Roscoe and his son Alonzo worked as operatives.
By 1910, Roscoe owned their house at 45 Manley St., free of mortgage. It had become rather crowded. In addition to Roscoe and Ella, they were joined by their daughter-in-law Cora (but without her husband Linn), their son William and his wife Harriett, and grandchildren, Roscoe, Thelma, Bernard, Byron and Dorris. The father, Cora, and William were all stitchers in a shoe factory.
Ella (Bridgham) died on April 18, 1912, in Auburn at the age of 65.
In 1920, widowed Roscoe continued to live at 45 Manley St. He was a "Mc Kay operator" at a shoe factory. Living with him was his widowed daughter-in-law, Hattie Wood (a tip stitcher at a shoe factory) and her children, Thelma (billing clerk at an electric light co.), Roscoe (sole tacker at a shoe factory), and Bernard M. and Byron E. (room workers at a shoe factory) and Doris, who was attending school.
Roscoe died on June 1, 1926, in Maine at the age of 81.
Roscoe and Ella (Bridgham) Wood are buried at the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Auburn.
