Augustus Evans Wood is the son of the Reverend John Wood, one of the pioneer Baptist preachers of Western Georgia and Eastern Alabama [1]
Augustus married Jane Melmoth Pinckard, daughter of James and Mariah Pinckard, of Monroe County, Georgia.
Augustus and Jane were the parents of nine children. When he died in 1865, Jane was a widow with six sons and two daughters, having lost one son in the army a short time before her husband.
Augustus is buried in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, in Pike County, Alabama, and is buried with Jane, who survived him by nineteen years. [2]
