She married William Barr 15 December 1897 in Laclede County.[2] Life would be exceedingly harsh on this young couple, taking their newborn daughter in April of 1899. As other families gathered in 1899 to celebrate for the holidays, Mary and her husband would both succumb to typhoid. Mary died on the 20 November 1899 and William on the last day of the year. The family is buried in Antioch Cemetery in Oakland in Laclede County, Missouri.[3]
