In 1794 Capt. Mathew Dorr with second wife, Lydia Wood and their 5 children set out on a journey of removal to Southern Ohio. On reaching Pennsylvania, news of Indian depredations in Ohio made it expedient to delay their journey for 12 months. They then resumed their journey and succeeded in reaching Marietta on the Ohio River. But finding the Indian troubles revived, they took shelter in the stockade at that place, where they delayed until a definite treaty of peace was settled with the Indian tribes.
They proceeded to the place of their destination - Washington Co., Ohio and finally removed to a place known as Wolf's Plains, near the present village of Athens, Ohio where he died Sept. 18, 1801 and where she died Dec. 8, 1813.
