Researchers Notes
There is a 1900 census record with a J R Woods listed as born in Feb 1880, living in Prairie, Howard, Missouri, as a boarder. We have John's birthday as June 1880, and the census was taken on June 17, 1880, so the February birth month could be wrong, or he could be the wrong JR Wood. However, if this is our John, he only lives three doors down from Luther Woods. I am trying to see if we have a family connection. We do have a Luther Wood/s, but he was born in 1888; the one in this census was born in 1857. After light research, I did not find that the Luther in the 1900 census in Howard, Mo, is not connected to our Wood family line; I am still looking for any connection.

He was born in Missouri, USA.
In the Wood Family, I have found two families that had to give their children up for adoption. John R. Wood and Alpha Wood.
John R. Wood is Alpha's father. I am unsure what happened to John R. Wood, but Alpha had to give up his children because his wife, Bertha, died young of TB. He did try to keep them but was unable to. His son Lloyd Wood did locate all his siblings before his death,
February 6, 1911, is the death date listed over the years. I do not have proof of the exact date. There is a headstone that lists his birth year as 1911.
Luckily, we have as much information on this family line as we do, given that two families were adopted out.
This is the only census for this family: John and Charlotte Wood died young, and different families farmed out their children. We think the same family raised Alpha and Cletus. Marshall, no one knows. The Longdon family raised Cornie. Earl was raised by his Uncle Joseph A. & Mary Wood until he was 11, when he ran away from his home and lived independently.
(V W) I sent for a death certificate for John Russell Wood; Missouri has no death certificate filed for him.-Velma Wood

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
