I remember when first starting to research the Family Tree on my Grandfathers side, he had taken me aside and said "Don't bother I was Adopted", turns out four(4) other members of the family had tried to research and ran into roadblocks! I am persistant in my endeavours! Info I remember over the years! 1) Oldest Child 2) Father died 1st (supposedly went for a walk, body found in field next spring) 3) Mother remarried, supposedly adopted at that time 4) Remembers younger siblings After his passing as well as my own Father a few years later, was extended an invite to a Family Reunion! in Prince Edward Twp. Farm of Grace Young! Once there, info received was all to-gether different! 1) That he (Grandfather was actually the youngest) 2) That his Mother was the first to die! 3) That his Father had moved him and siblings to farm in Prince Edward Twp. 4) That it was his oldest Sister, that raised him! 5) The oldest Sister, moved him up to Muskoka's after his Father's passing, probably to be closer to Mothers Family (Not sure yet!) That's when she did get married, he was raised with her kids, ( his Cousins) 6) That my Great Grandfather was sent over as a Home Boy (they thought Bernardo) 7) That my Great Great Grandfather was a Clay Merchant back in England! Talk about a job to wrap my head around this one, Whew! Remember the trip back home, 3/4's of the way asking myself! "How can two stories exist, and both be accepted as the truth? Also on top of that, turns out, all our relatives up there use their second name as their first! My work is sure cut out for me, lol! Grandmother congratulated me as being the only one to find the Family in England, turns out she had the info all along!, Asked her why she never said anything? "No one asked!' was her reply! WOW! There is a lot of info, to go through, some we probably don't want to know! But in order to understand, what they went through, why certain events took place, what were they thinking? We have to dig out all of the information!(the Good and the Bad)! Just make sure you check, double check, and triple check, before going too far! It is easy to get misled and misdirected! And there are relatives that will refuse to accept your discoveries, but if you have done your checks and balances! "STAND YOUR GROUND" if they can prove you wrong, than accept! Otherwise "STAND YOUR GROUND" and don't give up! Hope this helps someone out there! Yours Scott M. Woodall
