John Woodbury served as a Captain in the militia in the War of 1812. Earlier, he had served as a lieutenant in Captain John Putnam's company of Colonel Ebenezer Learned's Regiment during the Revolution in 1775. His company was called to the alarm at Lexington and also served in the Burgoyne Campaign. His brothers, Jonathan and Peter, also served as officers in the militia.
John was born 26 September 1749 in Sutton, Worcester, Massachusetts
Captain John died 12 December 1831 in Sutton, Worcester, Massachusetts. He was buried in Armsby Cemetery in Sutton, Massachusetts.
John was married twice. His first wife was Mary Chase (1748-1799). She was the daughter of Caleb Chase (1722-1808). They married on 2 September 1748 in Sutton, Worcester, Massachusetts.
Captain John Woodbury, b. 1749, died in Sutton in December 1831, and within days of his death in that month, two of his sisters also died in the same town. No record of an epidemic illness has been discovered in research for this genealogy.
