Rush Woodcock had either dementia, or Alzheimer's Disease, and suffered from those debilitating symptoms of confusion and being lost. He was staying with relatives in Magnolia, and wandered away from the home unnoticed. He didn't come back, and a possey of law enforcement, and townspeople scoured the woodsides, for many days searched for him, but was not found.
About 3 years later, a timber worker found the remains of a man lying in some woods, not too far from the home where Rush was staying. He was identified by family by items in his pocket, and some clothing. The sherriff in Duplin stated erroneously on Rush's death certificate that he was insane. After his body was found and identified, his remains were interred on 13 Feb 1952 in Magnolia Cemetery, in Duplin County at a memorial service given for the family and friends.
