Winnie Woods was a Texan.

Winifred was born in 1916 in Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas. She was the daughter of William Charles Woods and Josephine, Josie, Irene Davis Woods. She had one sister who was 18 years older, Mary Virgie Woods Watts. Winifred's Father died when she was seven years old. She and her Mother moved to Austin, Texas where her sister lived. Her Mother went to work for the Austin Laundry and built their home on Canterbury Street in East Austin. Winifred attended the old Palm School and the old Austin High School, graduating with honors. She worked for Grand Silvers on Congress Avenue. Winifred was an active member of the Rainbow Girls all of her life

Winifred, now called Winnie, married Berry Leonidas Alvis and they lived with Josie until about 1949 when they purchased their home in North Austin on Palo Duro. After a few years Winnie went to work for London's Fabrics and worked there for over 30 years.

Winnie passed away in 1993. Buried in the Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery in Austin, Travis County, Texas.
