Biography

Sarah Woodson was born about 1665 in Henrico County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Robert Woodson and Elizabeth Ferris.

Marriage and Children

She married Edward Mosby prior to 1 June 1689 and they had a son, John, by that date.[1][2] Possibly married as early as 1686.
According to the referenced "Valentine Papers" [2], Sarah and Edward had eight known children:.
  1. John Mosby
  2. Robert Mosby
  3. Joseph Mosby
  4. Agnes Mosby
  5. Hezekiah Mosby
  6. Richard Mosby
  7. Jacob Mosby
  8. Benjamin Mosby

Death

Sarah died before her children were grown, but a specific date for her death has not been found. She died before 12 August 1716, which is the date her husband Edward married Mrs. Mary Watkins.
Find A Grave memorial 181358415 has been created, which incorrectly shows her death date as 12 August 1716. The credibility of the memorial is suspect.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sarah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sarah:

Woodson-172 and Woodson-51 do not represent the same person because: Nothing in common except name

Woodson-343 and Woodson-51 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, birth year and place. Married to the same person.

upon saving, received the following automated message:
Warning: Check the data.
  • A mother's death date (Woodson-51 died 12 Oct 1710) should not be before one of her children's birth dates (Moseby-16 born 1725) .

Her death date is marked as "uncertain". We lack good sources for her. Do you have any?

no, sorry. I just did a bit of post-merge cleanup to clear a database error and got that message when I saved my changes. It could be her death date or the daughter's birth date that's wrong, but what it can't be is HER daughter born 15 years after she died (did her husband re-marry? Maybe Agnes is not her daughter?).

So many good questions. So few good answers.

Woodson-343 and Woodson-51 are not ready to be merged because: Only postponing until the question to the pre-1700 team about the merger is answered. Otherwise, it looks good to me.

Something is wrong with this profile. Sarah is shown married to 2 men named Edward Mosby (Mosebey). The only sources are an Ancestry Tree and a GeniTree neither of which are valid sources for a pre-1700 profile. Does anyone have any sources they can add? Is it possible the profile has become conflated due to mergers? My ancestors might have been a Quaker like her daughter Agnes (Mosby) Binford.
Hi everyone, it’s time for Merge-a-Thon.

Sorry, I’d created my profile before Connect-a-Thon and was trying to connect her with her family (Agnes Mosby Binford, Mosby-343). I’ll enter a merge request. Sorry again, still learning.

Woodson-338 and Woodson-51 appear to represent the same person because: See Mosby-12 re the discrepancy in spelling of husband's name .

Otherwise this looks like a duplicate

Something wrong here. It seems Sarah was born before her father!
