Biography

Thankful Woodward was baptized on 9 Aug 1646 to Henry Woodward and Elizabeth Unknown in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony. ^[1]

On December 18, 1661,^{[1] [2]} Thankful married John Taylor in Northampton (located about 110 miles west of Dorchester). They had at least 13 children. Her husband, John Taylor, was killed by Indians on May 13, 1704. ^{[3] [4]} Her son John moved to Norwalk, Connecticut in about 1698 and she was living there with him in 1724. ^[5] In 1724, Thankful passed away in Norwalk, Connecticut Colony.

Henry Woodward was a member of the Dorchester church in 1639, and removed to Northampton in 1659. He came from Much Worton, Lancashire, Eng., and was "killed by lightning at the upper corn mill," April 7, 1683. He had 4 children:

1. Experience who m. Nov. 21, 1661, Medad Pomeroy.

2. Freedom (Mrs. Jedediah Strong).

3. Thankful who m. Dec. 18, 1662, John Taylor.

4. John.

He was "licensed to keep ordinary and sell wines and liquors," as reputable then as any other business, each year for several years successively (1665-81), during which time he regularly "entertained the court" which sat each year in Northampton.
